๐Ÿข About the Project

Who We Built This For

LegalEdge Pro is a legal firm whose attorneys were spending 80+ hours every week manually reviewing contracts โ€” reading through dense legal language to extract key clauses, flag risks, and check compliance requirements. This manual process was not only expensive in billable attorney hours, but also introduced the risk of human error on high-stakes documents.

๐Ÿ“‹ Project Overview

What We Set Out to Build

LegalEdge Pro needed to reduce the enormous time burden of manual contract review without compromising the accuracy that legal work demands. The solution uses Claude's language understanding capabilities to read contracts the way an experienced attorney would โ€” identifying key clauses, flagging unusual or risky terms, and checking documents against compliance requirements automatically.

The system ingests contracts in their original format, extracts and categorises every clause (termination, liability, indemnification, payment terms, and more), and generates a structured summary highlighting anything that deviates from standard terms or carries elevated risk. Attorneys review the AI-generated summary and flagged items rather than reading the full document line by line, cutting review time dramatically while keeping a human in the loop for final judgment calls.

Compliance checking runs alongside clause extraction, comparing contract language against the firm's playbook of required and prohibited terms, automatically surfacing any compliance gaps before a contract moves forward. The result is a system that lets attorneys focus their expertise on judgment and negotiation rather than the mechanical work of finding and categorising clauses โ€” at 99.2% extraction accuracy and a fraction of the original time cost.

The Challenge

What Needed to Be Solved

LegalEdge Pro's attorneys were spending 80+ hours weekly manually reviewing contracts to extract key clauses and assess risk โ€” a process that was both extremely expensive in billable time and prone to human error on dense, high-stakes legal documents. The firm needed to dramatically cut review time without sacrificing the accuracy and judgment that legal work requires.

1

Attorneys spent 80+ hours weekly on manual contract review, an enormous and expensive time investment for routine clause extraction work

2

Manual review of dense legal language introduced the risk of human error, particularly on long or complex contracts reviewed under time pressure

3

No standardised way existed to check every contract against the firm's compliance playbook, risking inconsistent application of required terms

4

Risk flagging depended entirely on individual attorney experience and attention, with no systematic way to catch unusual or non-standard clauses

5

Contract summarisation for client communication required additional manual work after the review itself was already complete

6

The firm had no scalable way to handle review volume growth without proportionally increasing attorney headcount and cost

Our Approach

How We Built It

1

Clause Taxonomy & Extraction Design

Worked with attorneys to define the full taxonomy of contract clause types and risk categories, then designed the Claude-powered extraction pipeline around it.

2

Risk Scoring Engine

Built the risk analysis engine comparing extracted clauses against standard contract templates to flag deviations and assign risk scores.

3

Compliance Playbook Integration

Digitised the firm's compliance playbook and built the automated checking system cross-referencing every contract against required and prohibited terms.

4

Summarisation & Reporting

Developed the plain-language contract summarisation feature and exportable reporting for client communication and internal review.

5

Validation & Firm-Wide Rollout

Validated extraction accuracy against attorney-reviewed contracts to reach 99.2% accuracy, then rolled out across the firm with attorney training.
