📚 KhannaBooks
Academic Publishing eCommerce Platform
Who We Built This For
Khanna Book Publishing Company Pvt. Ltd. was established in 1962 and has grown into one of India's premier academic and technical publishers. Their catalog covers engineering, science, and technology textbooks — many of which are AICTE-prescribed curriculum texts used across India's leading institutions including IITs and NITs. With 1 billion+ books in circulation and a 3-acre warehouse in Delhi, they are a trusted institution in Indian technical education.
What We Set Out to Build
KhannaBooks digitised Khanna Book Publishing Company — a premier Indian academic textbook publisher since 1962 — taking their catalog of thousands of engineering and technical titles fully online for the first time. The platform serves students, professors, and institutions across all of India in 9+ regional languages.
The store itself is built on WooCommerce, but the real complexity sat behind the scenes: migrating decades of catalog data with AICTE-prescribed and university-recommended tags intact, then layering WPML translation across nine regional languages so a student in Chennai or Kolkata could browse in their own language rather than English alone.
Beyond the storefront, two workflows that used to run entirely over phone and email moved online — colleges requesting bulk institutional pricing now get an automated quote instead of a back-and-forth email thread, and faculty requesting specimen review copies submit the request directly through the platform. An author portal closed the loop on the other side of the business, giving contributing authors visibility into manuscript status and royalties for the first time.

Start a ProjectWhat Needed to Be Solved
India's most respected technical publisher had zero digital presence. Students couldn't discover or order books without visiting stores or calling offices. Institutional bulk orders from colleges were managed entirely over phone and email. The multilingual audience of 9+ states had no regional-language access to their own AICTE curriculum books.

Students from 9 linguistic regions could only find books in English — a massive accessibility gap
The author manuscript submission and royalty process was paper-based with no online visibility
